The Soccer Doc has been immersed in the greatest game in the world since he started playing at the age of 5. Growing up in Bethesda, MD, Dr. Conti declared soccer early-on, to be his favorite sport. He played at some of the highest levels of competitive soccer that the United States had to offer at the time as a USYS National Champion with the Bethesda Soccer Club and US Olympic Development Program (ODP) Regional and National pool player.
An accomplished youth club and high school player, The Soccer Doc attended Howard University where he was an honor-student, athletic scholarship recipient and 4-year starting defender on a team that was an NCAA Division 1 College Cup finalist (1988) and quarter-finalist (1989).
After graduating with a B.S in Zoology, while still continuing to play club-level soccer competitively, Conti attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine, after which he returned to Howard University Hospital to complete residency training in Emergency Medicine.
After residency training, Dr. Conti relocated to Pittsburgh, PA, where he has resided since 2001, and after US Air Force deployments for both Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, Conti began his youth soccer coaching journey, while also receiving additional training in sports and concussion medicine. The Soccer Doc is a Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) for concussion health and Medical Advisor for SportGait® an innovative and comprehensive sports health, wellness and concussion platform.
The Soccer Doc is now the Director of Sports Health, Wellness and Performance for the BVB International Academy | Pittsburgh. He has been a Team Physician with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), U14-17 boys' and girls' player Youth National Team player pools since 2017. During the height of the COVID-19 global health pandemic, Dr. Conti served on the United States Youth Soccer (USYS) return-to-participation working group. The Soccer Doc is a FIFA Diplomate of Football Medicine with a passion for providing players of all ages and levels of experience and participation with the insight and information they seek in order to achieve their goals & objectives as footballers.
The Soccer Doc believes that, 'informed and empowered youth athletes, parents and coaches create safe spaces for technical, tacticall and social-emotional development.' He adds, 'the lessons and skills learned while participating in youth sports serve young people long after their competitive playing days are over.'
The Soccer Doc's youth coaching resume extends nearly 2-decades and Conti currently serves a Junior Academy coach for the BVB International Academy | Pittsburgh. Additionally, he is a USYS, PA West Olympic Development Program (ODP) Assistant Coach. In these roles, The Soccer Doc is able to merge his lifelong playing experiences with his passion for the long-term athletic development of youth soccer players; while also adding his clinical expertise in order to position youth players for optimal success in soccer and in life!
Most recently, The Soccer Doc realized his dream to coach competitive soccer at the high school level as the Head Coach of the Woodland Hills Boys' Soccer Program in Pittsburgh, considering this appointment to be a 'humbling and awesome opportunity to help shape young men into scholar-athletes who strive for excellence on and off the pitch through scholarship, sportsmanship, stewardship, service & soccer success'.
